Battling Robins bow out of this years FA Cup to Biggleswade

Despite taking the lead Ely couldn’t quite manage to see the job through against opposition one step up the pyramid.

They took the lead very early on when Ryan Harnwell was played in thanks to a fantastic pass from Josh Townsend. The striker took the ball beyond the opposition defence and did brilliantly to curl the ball into the corner of the net and beyond the goalkeeper.

Ely then had another chance two minutes later when Bullinaria was fouled just outside of the box but the ball went straight out of play.

Sadly for the hosts, the game turned at this point when around fifteen minutes into the game Biggleswades striker slotted home a cross which came in from the right hand side.
The away side then threatened to take the lead when twenty minutes into the game, Harry Reynolds did brilliantly to dive low and palm away a goal bound shot before the follow up was put just over the bar.

The half finished with lots of pressure from Biggleswade high up the pitch and it needed great defending from centre half pairing Williams and Harrison to keep the scores level. Up the other end of the pitch Crisp and Bullinaria were doing well to relieve the pressure and get the hosts up the pitch regularly.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first with the added negativity this time when striker Ryan Harnwell went off with an injury and then soon after Adam Capel had to go off too.

Biggleswade actually scored just after the defender Capel went off when the striker was played through and slotted well past Reynolds. Probably a deserved winner but the injuries didn’t help the Robins cause at all.

Ely had a great chance really late on when a corner found its way to Captain Tom Williams on the edge of the box but the number 6 could only manage to shoot over.
