With a strong looking line up with first team players coming back from injury and a couple last seasons under 18s who made their first team debut last season starting it was a disappointing afternoon all round for Alan Alsop and his assistant Mark Hammond.

Ely went behind to a cracking strike by ex Robin Matty Ashman , but Luke Fretwell knocked in the equaliser from close range. The major turning point in the game when Dean Grogan was shown a straight red for bringing down a Soham player when he was the last man. From the resulting free kick Soham took the lead again.

Ely had been creating chances all of the half and deservedly equalised through a Luke Mansfield goal. The Robins went in at half time really sensing that the game was still in their hands to be won even through they were down to ten men.

Unfortunately they turned in a disappointing half and went down by conceding three more goals A disappointing afternoon all round.
