On a very compact pitch the Robins started the game with control, passion and tempo resulting in a number of chances. The Orwell keeper was the busiest of the two making four superb saves to deny the away side the lead.
Ely did eventually take the lead when a Dean Grogan 'Cryuff' turn in the box resulted in him being fouled and Andy George stepped up to convert the spot kick.
If The Robins were in control in the first half then the second one was completely the opposite. Orwell came out for the second half and threw everything into getting back in the game and put Ely under real pressure which meant they stopped doing the things their were doing in the first half.
The home side did level as expected with the pressure mounting, but with two minutes to go Tom Thulborn looked like he had snatched an unlikely winner for his side. With time almost up a harshly awarded free kick to the home side resulted in a goalmouth scramble and they equalised right on the full time whistle.
Manager Alan Alsop commented this was not a good performance by us despite the first half performance. The players need to learn that you need to work harder under pressure
