A healthy crowd at The Ellgia Stadium on Wednesday evening enjoyed all the ingredients of a local derby.
A Luke Mansfield strike in the 71st minuted ensured all three points went to the Robins second string and with many of the home players making either their debut or starting their second spell with the club it was going to be interesting how the side performed in their first game.
The home side started brightly and created a number of chances, but could not find a breakthrough. Captain Callum Butcher going the closes when his header hit the post. Soham looked more dangerous at set pieces without really forcing debut keeper Jordan Mitchell into any save.
The second half was a lot more scrappy and the home side did not really get going until a rash tackle from a Soham player resulted in the away side going down to ten men.
The Robins continued to probe and got the break through in the end when Luke Mansfield ran the channels and coolly rounded the keeper to slot home. Charlie McManus almost made it 2-0 when his curling effort smashed against the bar.
The home side saw out a late chance by Soham to take all three points
