Robins second string remain unbeaten in the Kershaw Senior A, but it was a case of two points dropped rather than one gained on Saturday against Cottenham.
The Robins had most of possession and chances, but failed to take all three points against a stubborn home side. The game started in torrential rain fall and this was certainly a leveler
Things could have been different if as early as the 2nd minuted Luke Mansfield who got to the ball first before the last defender an would have been through on goal was not brought down.Although the free kick was given surprisingly no other action was taken and the chance had gone.
Ely did create chances, but failed to punish the home side and with their short passing game was not as fluent as it can be they seemed to get frustrated as the half went on
It became even more frustrating when with Cottenham's only chance of the game they went in front when a ball over the top found their striker and he just got his toe before the advancing Jordan Mitchell could collect and poked it home .
The second half brought more dominant possession without really creating to many chances, but in the 75th minute Finley Logan's strike leveled the game up and the Robins looked set to push on to take all three points. Cottenham did hit the bar with a speculative long range effort, but it was Luke Mansfield who had the best chance to seal the game up in the 87th minute when good work by Charlie McManus found the striker inside his box . Mansfield controlled himself but dragged his shot wide
Next up for the Robins is a home game on Saturday against Haverhill Borough Reserves
