On a grey blustery morning at the Demcom, Ely City Women continued to adjust to life in division two, with much change.
Tash Lane returned to the squad after illness and Murombo made her debut after missing last week's game due to injury.
Murumbo nearly got off to a great start to her Ely career, as after 3 minutes, Kerry Dyer's ball in behind found the young striker and she was just closed down by the Athletic keeper before a shot could be had.
Despite Ely having the better start, the away team took the lead against the run of play out of no where.
A ball in behind the left back area found the winger in the channel and her tame shot crept in at Tiff Toyton's near post.
Ely could and maybe should have equalised soon after, Atlanta Stevenson's ball over the top found Beth Horsfield free.
As the young winger took the ball down in space, she sliced her effort wide from the edge of the box.
Danni Youngs was finding pockets of space early and done well to drive through from the half way line, but Horsfield and Murombo couldn't find space to receive her pass. Murombo continued to cause trouble down the left, as she ghosted past 3 Whittlesey players, but her cut back couldn't find Youngs.
Whittlesey then dominated the majority of the half, as first El Cooper had to head away dangerously before Kerry Dyer turned hero, firstly making a crucial last ditch challenge and then throwing herself in front of a close range effort destined for the bottom corner.
They then went close through a free kick from 20 yards, that just skimmed the outside of Toynton's post.
There was a chance for Ely on half time, Horsfield's cross was spilled by the away side's keeper but smothered Youngs' follow up.
HT: Ely City 0 - 1 Whittlesey Athletic
Ely second half came out with a little more aggression. And Youngs nearly delivered the perfect start to the half, when she picked up the ball wide left, cutting in on her right and crashing an effort off the underside of the bar from 25 yards with the Keeper totally beaten.
The game began to open up, as Whittlesey broke on the counter, switching right to left in behind Dyer, but Tess Shaw closed the angle for the forward to shoot into the side netting.
Murombo was causing a nuisance for the defenders, she was hacked down 25 yards out, Horsfield striking the resulting free kick just over the bar.
Lane was brought on to tighten the midfield up and her impact was soon seen. She won the ball in the middle of the field and fed Youngs, her excellent lay off into Murombo's path saw the young striker bare down on goal - although her initial shot was saved by the Keeper's feet, it looped up kindly for the forward to head home!
The same nearly paid off 3 minutes later, Lane feeding Murombo direct, seeing the keeper out of position, she snatched at her shot and it just went wide.
Whittlesey then went on the attack, the long ball behind saw the blues forward bare down on goal, but El Cooper got back and poked away at the last second. Shaw then did excellently to slide in before another shot at goal could be taken.
Ely thought they should have had a penalty and quite rightly so, as a quick throw from Buttimer caught out Whittlesey's back line and Murombo nipped in and into the box. She was clipped from behind and went down, but the ref waved away. Deliberate or accidental, Ely felt aggrieved.
Both teams had chances late on, Dyer and Gibson superbly together blocked out the forward, before another through ball from Lane to Murombo saw a tired effort tamely wide.
A draw probably a fair result as a game of two halves saw Ely much better in the second period. They could have got a winner as they upped the pressure and aggression in the game, but Whittlesey were always dangerous going forward.
