Ely City Women vs Manea Sirens

Ely City Football Club5 Feb - 10:56

Ely City Women returned to winning ways as a Danni Youngs hatrick and five other goal scorers destroyed Manea in a first half blitz.

On a frosty morning at the Demcom, it was Ely who were fired up for the occasion and took the lead on 3 minutes.

Youngs exchanged passes with Poppy Green and bundled home her first from close range.

Kelly Docwra and then Tash Lane tested the Manea keeper before Green fired off inside of the woodwork and Youngs was there to tuck in her second on 10 minutes.

Beth Horsfield fired wide and Lane had a looped effort over, before a beautiful pass in behind from Ellie Cooper saw Green break away and place home for the home sides 3rd. Manea tried to get forward but Cooper and then Kerry Dyer made last ditch challenges to avoid any chances on goal.

Ely then scored 3 quick goals in 5

Minutes as Docwra chased a loose ball into the corner and her pinpoint pull back found Lane unmarked who swept home sweetly for 4-0.

Docwra then added to the score a minute later, carrying the ball into the right channel, before cutting back on her left on the edge of the area and curled a delightful shot into the far top corner for number 5!

Horsfield then managed to squeeze the 6th in on the half hour, great interchange between Amy Lloyd, Youngs and Docwra saw the ball switched to the unmarked winger and she placed home.

There was enough time for Ely to put a 7th on the board, as again Cooper robbed the Manea midfielder and it ricochet between Docwra and Lloyd to Youngs, who drew the keeper and lobbed over her to make the half time score 7-0.

Into the second half, City rung the changes as Erin Chandler came on, and she was quickly adding to the score on 50 minutes as Horsfield’s in swinging corner was flicked home by Chandler for her 3rd of the season.

Manea shell shocked tried to go direct, but Kaci Gibson blocked a break and Tiff Toynton in goal made a comfortable stop.

Ely then made 4 changes, switching their formation as they comfortably held back any chance of a Manea consolation. Christine Cullen fired into the side netting, Horsfield drove just over and Harwood hit the post from a poked effort from a corner.

There was still time for another Chandler effort and Youngs again looking for her fourth exchanged passes with Green, but her snap shot was saved by the away keeper.

The game fizzled out in the remaining minutes, as over as a contest from the 30 minute mark. Another great win at home for the Women, goal difference and points totals now closing for their promotion target!
