Managers Update

With all senior football now finished at Ely City I thought I would share some thoughts and thank you all for the season.
I’d like to thank everyone that has supported the 1st team both home and away this season, the atmosphere at home has been excellent and I’m glad we have been able to give the fans some enjoyable moments to reward them for support.

A big thank you also goes to all the staff at the club and those volunteers that put so much effort in to make sure the club and the match days have run efficiently, having the mascots from the Ely Crusaders has been a superb way of bringing new support and establishing connections with local people.

Special thanks to Demcom, Deanta and all the local companies that have supported Ely City this season, without the support of local businesses non-league football simply doesn’t exist and we can’t thank you enough for showing your support.
Congratulations to Chris, Rich and the reserve team for an outstanding season with their cup double, at the beginning of the season we discussed a better link between the 1st team and the Reserves and how important it was to try and promote someone from the Youth team. This season we have seen so many players featuring across both sides in various capacities with Josh Townshend, Ben Harnwell, Dom Hunt and Luke Mansfield making outstanding contributions for both teams. It would be no surprise for anyone to see the lads go one better next season.
With so much talk of pathways these days it has also been good to see Jevan Cook's progression into the first team, featuring regularly for the U18 and gaining experience between both the 1st team and reserves. A great end to the season for Jevan with a first team goal and a cup winners medal for him. This process starts again next season where we look to offer more opportunities for young players at our club.
The first team have encountered ups and downs this season. There have been some fantastic performances, and some great goals scored this season with the win’s against Lakenheath, Hadleigh and away at Heacham being the highlights. We would of course liked to have finished the season higher up the table but the run at the end of the season can fill everybody at our club with hope and encouragement and with a couple of additions to the squad we can look to enjoy more good times next season.
The end of the season has seen the early departures of Dean Grogan, Phil Peachey, and Dean Hilborn, all leave with my best wishes for the future and can’t thank them enough for their contributions to the campaign. Dean will particularly missed having been with us since the very first day of pre-season. A very good coach and will hopefully be back in the game very soon.
Talks with the remaining players have been positive and we hope to retain the majority of the squad although we all know that until the registration window opens football can change very quickly. We hope to inform you on some positive news with new players and some exciting fixtures on the way very soon but for now enjoy the summer and we look forward to seeing you back at the Demcom in July.
