After last week’s announcement of First Team assistant Matt Payne’s departure to Histon, manager Guy Habbin has moved swiftly to replace.
Richard Nightingale has stepped up from the Reserves management team to assist Habbin in an internal promotion within the club.

Nightingale joined Ely back in 2023 from Over Sports. Working beside Chris Hancock, the duo in 2023/24 won both senior cup trophies and guided the Reserves to 4th place in the league before retaining the Cliff Bullen and finishing 4th again at the end of the 24/25 season.

‘Rich’ is familiar with the first team set up, stepping in this year on occasions to assist on match days. The strength and unity of both squads last season makes the transition almost seamless as the new season approaches.

Meanwhile, recruitment is already underway to strengthen Hancock’s management team for the reserve side’s Kershaw Prem campaign.
