Ressies forced to take point against Foxton

Ressies forced to take point against Foxton

Ely City Football Club

22.08.25 Go Cardless Premier Ely City 1 - 1 Foxton

Paul Dawson's Reserve side took their first point in a game they will feel they should have had more from.

With recent performances unrewarded with close defeats to Hemingfords United and Wimblington, the Reserves lined up with confidence they could grab their first points of the season. The early experience of Foxton, versus the youthful enthusiasm of the Reserve side saw the opening 30 minutes a tight affair, with Liam Powell and Vinnie Trombetta forcing saves from the Foxton keeper and Toby Arkle in the Robins goal making a useful save to keep the scores level. The home side probed and great work down the left from Daniel Orekogbe saw his cut back deflected wide before Powell could poke home.

The break through came on the stroke of half time, great work down the right hand side from Jev Cook saw him link up well with Powell, they exchanged passes inside the box before Cook poked home through a crowd of players for a deserved lead.

HT: Ely City Res 1 - 0 Foxton

The second half started with an early chance for the Robins, which went narrowly wide which was then punished a minute later. A ball down the Foxton left was looped in and ex Red Liam Moir bundled the ball past Arkle. That got the away side's tails up and Arkle had to make a flying save off to his right to keep out a close range header before Louis Diver and Tom Saunderson combined to block.

Ely came back into it, Jake Hornibrook's pass onto Charlie Sutcliffe saw the tricky forward but in to Trombetta, but he was blocked off, before Kayne Francis and Orekogbe combined, but the Keeper blocked well. There was a late chance to win it for Ely, Phi Turner's long throw saw Cook flick a header off the top of the bar as the game petered out for a draw.
