Robins left Bloated by Last Gasp Equaliser

Robins left Bloated by Last Gasp Equaliser

Ely City Football Club

A 99th minute equaliser cancelled out an Alex Kerr opener for the Robins as Ely were denied all 3 points.

The Robins made the long trip to the east coast, hoping to get back to winning ways after last weeks defeat to Ipswich Wanderers.
Tom Rigby, signed on a short term loan came in for the unavailable Harley Murkin, as Tom Stoker returned to the bench after being away for the last two games.

A very even and open cagey first half was greeted with changeable weather conditions, with sunshine and wind causing some disruption to both sides.
Ely had a chance to open the scoring, hitting the post twice in a matter of minutes as the home Keeper also made some excellent stops to keep the home side in it. The Bloaters made their way back into the game as the half drew, as they created openings, but Jacob Partridge headed clear from a dangerous cross. Rob Ruddy also had to be alert as the forward tried to muster something inside the box. Robins stopper Tyler Key flicked away from a dangerous wind assisted effort as the half closed out.

HT: Great Yarmouth 0 - 0 Ely City

Into the second half, the weather changed as the wind swept up and rain hammered down in both teams eyes as the surface became quicker and slippery, but the ariel balls were just as varied in the gusts.
The Robins faced a blow just after the hour mark, Key went down uncomfortably clutching his shoulder and was forced off.
Alfie Rogers pulled on the gloves as replacement in between the sticks.

Despite the set back, the deadlock was broken on 70 minutes by Ely! Kerr was on point to fire the Robins in front as the rain teamed down.
There was minimal chances as the game looked to close out, but as the clock ticked towards full time, a nasty head injury saw Yarmouth's player receive lengthy treatment. That extended time past the 90 mark gave the Bloaters one last chance. And from that, in the 99th minute, a free kick wide on the left hand side was put right to the back post - wind assisted it carried over Rogers and in despite Alex Brown trying in vain to head out.

The final whistle brought disappointment that the Reds couldn't hold on, but a point was a fair enough result for both sides considering the misfortunes of injuries before and during the game.
