
Peter’s name is woven into the fabric of the club, as a dependable and talented full-back who dedicated more than 18 years to the Robins - proudly representing from the late 1950s until injury brought his playing career to an end during the 1973/74 season. Throughout that remarkable period, Peter wore the shirt with distinction across the Youth, Reserve and First Team, earning the admiration of teammates, opponents and supporters alike.
His ability was recognised well beyond Ely. Peter was capped at England U18 level and became a mainstay of the County rep team, at a time when county honours were regarded as one of the highest achievements in the amateur game. In doing so, he became the first Ely City player to earn more than 20 Cambridgeshire County caps, a landmark achievement that reflected both his consistency and outstanding quality.
In the 1962/63 season, Peter was deservedly voted the Ely City Supporters’ Player of the Year, further recognition of the excellence, the commitment and professionalism he displayed every time he stepped onto the pitch.
In recognition of his exceptional service to football and to Ely City - Peter was awarded Life Membership of the club an honour reserved for those whose contribution leaves a lasting legacy.
Peter’s dedication, loyalty and pride in representing the Robins set an example that continued to inspire generations of players who have followed. His contribution to the club’s history will not be forgotten with his place among our great history of players assured.
