The Robins headed to the Skyline Network Stadium home of Long Melford needing a victory in their play off chase.
Already relegated Long Melford started much brighter and applied a lot of pressure on Tyler keys goal in the early stages.
This pressure eventually paid off when Caden Vine chips the ball across the areas for Ben Humphreys to tap in in after 16 minutes.
Melford had amongst their ranks ex Robin Ryan Gibbs, who has an uncanny knack of scoring against us but this time he went into the book for an over enthusiastic challenge rather than a goal.
On 29 mins some lovely wing place by Alex Kerr allowed him to play the ball across the 18yrd area and his pass was met by the onrushing Tom Stoker who slotted home for 1-1.
Shortly after the equaliser Ryan Gibbs received his his marching orders for a 2nd yellow card. The foul gave Ely a penalty which was duly despatched by captain Louis Jenkins for his 10th strike of a successful season.
It got better just before the break as club legend Alex Theobald broke through the defense and slotted away in the 44th minute.

The away fans were by now smelling blood in the water as Long Melford lost their composure but despite a few attempts only one more goal was added. It was a dangerous free kick by Alex Brown that found Jacob Partridge in thew danger zone and the stalwart defender scored his 3rd of the campaign.
