The game was built as a tough one to call as both sides had remained unbeaten so far this season and that was exactly how the game panned out.

Ely made two changes to the starting eleven from the Saffron Walden game with Sean Francis-Calvey and Daniel Maund starting in place of Tom Thulborn and Lewis Beeton.

In fact is was Francis-Calvey who had a glorious opportunity to put his side ahead early on when he was through one on one with the keeper ,but hit his shot straight at him. Ely were the better side early on,but Camb City grew into the game and although having a good percentage of possession did not really create to many open chances.

The second half started with the Robins on the front foot and looking more likely of the two sides to break the dead lock. A major turning point in the game came when substitute Jack Brand of City who had already been booked for starting the second half without getting confirmation from the linesman was then adjudged to have fouled Sean Francis- Calvey when the attacker was clean through resulting in another yellow card and a sending off.

Ely did not really make their one man advantage count and rather than playing short passes decided to keep going long and play into the hands of the City defence . The game was always going to be decided by a mistake or a piece of individual brilliance and so it was that Lewis Hook trying to claim a place back in the first team beat one defender while driving through the midfield and unleashed a shot from 30 yards that had the keeper beaten all ends up.
