Two penalties conceded one at the end of each half condemned Ely to their first league draw of the season against a City side who still remain unbeaten.

The opening exchanges were all Ely with chances being created and again the final decision or the final pass was lacking. The opening goal for The Robins came when the City keeper came for a cross and missed it and captain Joe Brannan was on hand to put the ball away

The home side kept charging forward and and really should have increased their lead as the half went on. City looked compact with the ball without looking dangerous and right on the stroke of half time Jacob Waters foul on an attacker was deemed to be inside the box by the referee and surprisingly both sides went into the break level.

Cambridge came out for the second half just had The Robins had started the first and if any side was going to go ahead it looked more likely that it would be the visitors.

On 85 minutes Luke Mansfield stretched the City back line and when his low cross was cut out by the defender the ball flew into the net . After the FA Youth Cup against AFC Rushden & Diamonds when they managed the game very well, you thought that they would see the game out. Unfortunately this was not the case and an attack on the City right found the winger busting into the box and Charlie Tunnell was deemed to have pulled the player back. Again it seemed a very soft decision but once again the visitors scored and pulled level.

After the game Mark Leonard commented 'We were all really disappointed with result after game as although we didn't play well second half we still got ourselves in a winning position, but didn't close out game.
On reflection I think a draw probably was a fair result'.
