After a number of pre-season friendlies to help the new look squad gel the league campaign started with a home fixture with Haverhill Rovers which resulted in a comfortable 2-0 win.
The opening 30 mins were cagey and whilst Ely dominated possession, the visitors did look dangerous from set pieces.
That said, it took a wonderful mazy run from Charlie Tunnell and a through ball to open up the Rovers defence and sent Ryan Frear free to drive home from the edge of the box.
Five minutes before the break, Kieran Pawson released Mitchell Drewitt who was brought down in the box to win a penalty.
The penalty was easily converted by Tunnell to double the lead.

In truth, the second half was played out with Ely maintaining possession stifling any threat that Haverhill may have. No real chances were created for either side and Ely, with a full bench, were able to make a number of changes to utilise the squad
