The u18 side lost out in a 'game of two halves' after surrendering two goal lead.

Ely started the game superbly and flew in to a quick fire lead. Great play from Mitchell Drewitt down the flank in the 4th minute saw a low cross drilled home by Tom Thurlborn.

Ely scored again soon after when Thurlborn again showed great trickery, cut in from the left and blasted in to the roof of the net to double the lead.

Godmanchester slowly clawed themselves back in to the game although the away side looked comfortable in holding on to their lead.

Ryan Frear went close but dragged his shot wide and Drewitt again flashed a ball across the six yard box.

The game changed with a goal for the home side just before the break as a header was scored from a superb corner.

Half-time; 1-2

Unfortunately the second half was all Godmanchester.

An equaliser followed not long after the break. This was followed by a quick third from the penalty spot as Charlie Tunnell was adjudged to have committed a shirt pull at a corner.

From there, Ely tried to regain the momentum but were caught twice on the counter as Godmanchester extended the lead.

Full-time; 5-2

A harsh lesson for the team as Godmanchester were ruthless with their chances. A poor half of football resulted in 4 goals conceded however the first half display was superb and is the focus to build on
