Robins win in close encounter

The Robins started brightly and created an early chance for Josh Lewis who blazed wide but was having a lot of joy down the right hand side.

Build up play was good in to midfield and whilst the final ball wasn't always great, City looked a constant threat in wide areas on the counter attack.

The first half calmed and became a midfield battle with few chances being created by either side.

The away side went close though when a free-kick from Charlie Tunnell was met by Louie Diver who diverted the ball on to the cross bar and over for a goal kick

The second half started in much the same manner.

Both teams always looked to play football but with defences being on top, play was condensed in to the middle third.

The pace of Josh Lewis and Archie Harvey caused problems for the home side. This was highlighted when Josh Lewis skipped past 3 challenges but saw his curling effort stopped by the home goalkeeper, a good save after a great run.

A decisive couple of minutes changed the game with 20 minutes to play.

Manels of Mildenhall cut inside from the left and drilled an effort on goal which saw a crucial save from Joe Deas. Ely composed themselves and as they counter attacked, the home goalkeeper played a loose clearance in to midfield where Ryan Frear struck a fantastic half volley from just inside the centre circle. The ball bounced once in to the empty net.

From there Mildenhall pressed forward. As expected, they began to dominate possession and despite threatening from a corner in the dying seconds, Deas was mostly untroubled.

An outstanding result against a good side. The team were superb with and without the ball and was a very mature performance made by a young side in this league.
