The Youth Team fell to their first defeat in pre-season with a 1-5 defeat against Histon who they will meet later in the season in league fixtures.
The contest was fairly even in the opening stages but as Histon began to dominate possession they found themselves in the lead when the winger cut inside to drill low past Ben Newton.
Histon continued to win the battle in midfield and passed the ball quickly not allowing Ely to win the ball back. There were few clear cut chances and the game fizzled out in to half-time.
Half-time; 0-1
The second half followed the pattern of the majority of the first.
Histon were excellent in possession, however, Ely looked a more potent threat on the counter.
A penalty conceded for a foul allowed the visitors to double the lead. Immediately, Ely responded and after a shot from Jordan Johnson was parried, Ollie Ward tapped in.
It looked like Ely were going to get back in to the game and some good efforts from Ollie Ward and Will Fox both went close.
The game swung back Histon's way when an error in playing out from the back allowed them to place the ball past the outcoming GK.
As Ely tired, Histon added 2 late goals to further their lead.
Full-time; 1-5
Starting XI; Newton, Elsom, J Johnson, Perry, Menon, Berriman, Robjant, Fox, How, Ward, Smith
