Two goals from Steve Holder saw Ely City beat Kirkley and Pakefield by 2 goals to 1 at the Ellgia Stadium.
Ely took the lead in the first half after a free kick from Robins captain Jamie Alsop could only be parried
away by the goalkeeper Alex Blowers and was followed up by the Robins number 10 Steve Holder.
Kirkley and Pakefield found an equaliser when the ball was crossed into Ely’s box from open play and
was finished by number 4 Kaden Goldspin who headed the ball into the net.
In swirling wind and rain Ely took the lead again in the second half after a free kick was hit into the
opposition box and Holder took his header well despite heavy pressure from the defenders to restore
the hosts lead.
Ely have now won twice in succession after a 3‐2 win at home against Yarmouth the previous Saturday
and are unbeaten in four league games heading into next week’s trip to Stowmarket Town.
