West Wratting 1 Ely City 0

Ely played their second friendly of their pre season schedule away at West Wratting but at times this
friendly threatened to boil over.
The only goal of the game came in the first ten minutes when a free kick from the left hand side wasn’t
dealt with by the Ely defence and after the ball hit the bar was tapped home by Baker for the hosts.
The first half was a scrappy midfield battle with no real chances for either side and no real goalmouth
action. Luke Thurlborne who had been on the end of a few fouls from West Wratting was sinbinned just
minutes before the half time whistle after he was shoulder barged off the ball and was involved in a
verbal altercation with the referee.

The second forty five followed the same flow as the first and Ely had their best chance of the half after a
corner from Nick Heap was fired just over the bar by number 7 Michael Harvey.
The major talking point of the game came when Ely ‘keeper Harry Reynolds was very harshly judged to
have fouled West Wratting’s number ten inside the penalty area. Thankfully for the Robins, Reynolds got
down really well to his right hand side to save the spot kick.
The penalty call seemed to be very harsh so it felt like justice had been done.
Steve Holder played a free kick just over late on but no equaliser came for Ely.
Ely’s next game is at home to Soham on July 16 th and then they are away at Great Shelford on Saturday
20th .
