Robins progress as they 'Holds' on for the win

The Robins progressed for the first time in six years in the FA Cup and the first for Brady Stone in his career at the Hutchinson Hollow as a Steve Holder brace sent them through to the Preliminary Round.

The Robins only change to the side that beat Mildenhall Town on Tuesday was Luke Crisp coming in for the injured Ryan Harnwell.

In a scrappy wind assisted game at the Hutchinson Hollow it was the home side who had the early possession, but it was the Robins who had two great chances to take the lead early on.A Tom Williams header that hit the bar and then a Joe Brannan headed effort that he should have done better with .Steve Holder then had an effort cleared off the line by a defender.

Just after the half hour mark Steve Holder did take his chance with a header to put the Robins 1-0 up.

Both sides then had a mixture of chances .Luke Crisp from distance and Jordan Foster failed to beat the keeper, while the home side had a great chance from header which was put over.

HT 0-1

The second half started with a Harry Reynolds long kick finding Matty Simpson in the box, but he failed to convert. The lively Jordan Foster then was put through with a one on one with the keeper, but his shot hit the side netting.

The missed chances were even more significant as a 30 yard wind assisted free kick from the home side beat Harry Reynolds to make it all square.

The away side continue to press and Ash Walter was denied with a long range effort. While the Robins continued to create chances against the wind the home side looked dangerous on the counter attack. The Robins finally got their reward when Jordan Foster was fouled in the box and and Steve Holder calmly blasted it home.

Potton needed to press to draw themselves level and Reynolds had to be at his best while Sam Reed had a great chance to finish the tie ,but could only hook his effort back into the keepers hand.

The Robins finally saw the last couple of minutes out and saw them through to the next round where their will meet Northern Premier Division One South East side Wisbech Town away on Saturday 24th August

FT 1-2

Manager Brady Stone could not hide his delight at the final whistle .' Delighted with the win although we were not at our best today and never got out of second gear.Saying that we still created a lot of chances. Its not about the performance in cup games , but its about getting through and that is what we did. The lads dug in deep and got the win.It has been a great start to the season with three wins out of three, but now we need to get our heads down and work even harder as a group
