Williams strike earns another bite at the cherry

The Robins came from behind twice to deservedly earn another chance of progressing into the 1st Qualfying Round of this years FA Cup.

The Northern Premier League Division One South East side came into the game after two league defeats and no goals, but after a fairly even first ten minutes took the lead when a Joe Brannan back header did not reach its intended target and Layton Maddison nipped in just before Harry Reynolds to put his side ahead.

While Matty Simpson fired over for the Robins it was the home side on the attack that looked more dangerous especially the long diagonal from left to right, but Adam Capel defended stoutly.

Good work from Jordan Foster saw his cross into the six yard box begging for someone to tap home and then good build up play found Sam Reed on he edge of the box. Good feet by Reed enabled him to have a shot, but straight at the keeper

In the 34th minute the Robins went close again . A long free-kick finds the head of Joe Brannan, who heads onto Ash Walter and his effort is tipped over by Farrell in the Wisbech goal.

Apart from the goal there was not much to choose between the two sides and The Robins still felt they were still in the game

HT 1-0

Wisbech started the second half on the front foot with the visitors starting slowly, saying that when they had to defend they did just that.

The equaliser came in the 61st minute when after a clear penalty shout for a foul on Jordan Foster when the referee looked to blow his whistle only to wave play on .The ball was recycled and using all his experience Steve Holder fired home from the edge of the box.

Wisbech then straight after claimed they should have had a penalty ,but the referee was not interested. Ex Fenman Ryan Harnwell then joined the field at the expense of goalscorer Steve Holder to try and knock his old side of the cup.

To the Robins fans despair a clear tackle by Jamie Alsop in the box which did have a little bit of a follow through on Hart and the referee deemed it a foul and a penalty. Rogers scored from the spot with Harry Reynolds getting close with 78th minutes gone the away side were on their way out of the cup.

With seven minutes to go Josh Lowe and Dan Jeffrey came on for Jordan Foster and Luke Crisp and two minutes later the sides were level again.
The Robins tried their best to retain possession in the final third, and after pinball inside the Wisbech penalty box, Tom Williams was there to spin and strike under the reach of Farrel after a slight deflection off a defender. Ely fans behind the goal go wild.

With minutes left the Robins seemed to be the ones pushing for the winner but the game ends in a 2-2 draw and a reply on Tuesday 3rd September at the Demcom Stadium 7:45pm KO

Manager Brady Stone commented after the game 'It was a really pleasing performance as a team. I thought we was fantastic and we gave a never die attitude performance again from the lads. We deserved the replay on that performance and the main thing we are in the hat for the draw'
