After securing three points in the last game against bottom club F.C Clacton,Ely travelled to second to bottom club Swaffham Town. They were also without a league win to their name and the Robins went into the game full of confidence in obtaining another win on the road.
Ollie Brookes came in for Daniel Jeffrey with Ash Walter moving over to full back. Kelvin Enaro was unavailable along with the injured Mason Newman . Ashley Shipp came in with George Darling to complete the line up .
Playing down the slope in the first half Ely dominated possession with again not really creating to many clear chances. It was Swaffham who had the first shot on goal as Alex Vincent who was to be a pain in the side of the Robins all night having a shot from a quickly taken free kick that Harry Reynolds pushed around the post. Ashley Shipp had the away sides best chance of the half when put through he poked his effort just wide George Darling went close with a long range effort, but the lose of striker Alex Theobald with a re-concurrence of his ankle injury could prove more costly than just losing three points in this game
The home side ended the half with Ashley Walter making a last ditch block in his own area and Harry Reynolds saving from an in swinging corner.
The second half was one that the away side would like to forget. It started how it was to continue with Ollie Brookes heading a free kick just wide of his own post for a corner The home side came out like a different side and just like on Saturday the Robins did not start the second half at all well. Swaffham had three good efforts on goal before an Alex Vincent free kick was well saved by Harry Reynolds .This was just to be a warm up before the strike for the winning. goal.
Ely seemed to panic every time Swaffham attacked them and all of a sudden the believe they had disappeared . Everything became rushed and their play became very predictable with attempting to hit long balls behind the home sides back four.
The winning goal was from a free kick exactly in the same position as the previous one only this time Vincent directed his shot over the wall and out of the reach of the despairing Reynolds
In between Swaffam then hitting the post twice with long range efforts Ely did create one great chance with a Craig Neal pin point cross from the left and new signing Ashley Shipp only had to direct his shot either side of the keeper in the six yard box, but blasted his effort over the bar.
The final whistle went and Manager Brady Stone kept his players on the pitch to tell them exactly how unhappy and annoyed he was about the performance. The second half was not good effort in terms of quality at this level and a big improvement is required for the home game v Long Melford on Saturday
