Robins secure another home win

After Tuesday night's disappointing second half display against Swaffham Town manager Brady Stone was looking for the right reaction from his side. He got it with probably the best performance of the season so far from his side and the scoreline does not really show the tale in terms of possession and chances created

The Robins without the already injured strikers Alex Theoblald,Mason Newman,Joe Peacock and Sam Goodge were dealt a blow in the warm up when Ashley Shipp pulled up with a hamstring injury and had to pull of the game .

Ely started on the front foot and were ahead inside ten minutes when a corner was bundled home by centre back Tom Williams. Melford went very close soon after to drawing level but a finger tip save by Harry Reynolds turned the bar onto the bar and the danger was cleared

That was the only chance the visitors created during the first half as Ely were first to every second ball and then attacked the Melford back line in wide positions as much as possible . Kelvin Enaro was given the left back a torrid time and Craig Neal looked to be back to his best form of last season on the left flank. In fact it was Neal who almost made it 2-0 when his shot was deflected and beat the keeper only to see the ball rebound off the bar. The home side seemed to be enjoying themselves and looked dangerous every time they went forward.

Full back Daniel Jeffrey almost got his first goal of the season with a thunderous long range effort that had the keeper making a fine save to turn it over. George Darling who stepped in to replace Shipp up front had a good game and had a great chance to increase the lead but his shot was blocked in the six yard box. Headers by Kelvin Enaro and Craig Neal could add to the total before half time.

The second half was fairly more even with Long Melford at least creating some chances but the home side looked comfortable in the way that they were managing the game and an Ash Walter headed effort and a Kelvin Enaro strike almost increased the lead.

A Jamie Alsop free kick smashed against the bar and you did start to wonder if for all the chances and play that the visitors may create one chance to take a point that they would not have deserved. In the end it was that man Kelvin Enaro who sealed all three points for his side when he was found by captain James Seymour on the left and as Enaro ran into the box he calmly finished past the advancing Melford keeper to the joy of the Robins bench and fans

A much welcome win, but more so in the manner of the performance .Next up is Brantham Athletic away next Saturday
