An Alex Theobald strike 30 seconds before the end of the game ensured that the home side salvaged a point at home to bottom side Swaffham Town.

Harry Reynolds and Jamie Alsop came into the starting line-up after both being unavailable on Saturday. Jake Alsop dropped out of the squad and George Darling took his place on the bench as he was nursing a back injury.

The home side started fairly brightly, but as the half went on both sides struggled to maintain a real foot hold on the game. The Robins did take the lead in the 30th minute when Ollie Brookes rose at the far post and although the Swaffham defender made a good attempt to keep it out his header the referees assistant flagged for a goal.

Swaffham had not really created to many chances, but were level five minutes later when a ball over the top found Alex Vincent who smashed the ball past a helpless Reynolds.

The second half had only just started and the away side got their noses in front when a sweeping move from left to right found Ben Champion who cooly finished to put his side 2-1 up.

Ely did have chances in front of goal during the half , but Tom Williams and then Sam Reed were guilty of not taking them. A Jamie Alsop free kick seemed destine for the net, but bizarrely Nathan Littlefair kept the ball out with his hand and was promptly booked for deliberate hand ball.

With the clock ticking away and with 30 seconds left a free kick into the Swaffham box caused mayhem with the bodies around the goal and the ball fell to Alex Theobald just on the penalty spot and who duly thumped the ball home.

It was hard luck on Swaffham who had defended stoutly for much of the second half, but like us at Thetford on Saturday the game is not over until that final whistle.
