Robins overcome 9 men Rovers

With both sides coming into the game after winning their last league games anticipation was high from both camps that a victory was within their reach.

Brady Stone made three changes to the Wisbech St Mary starting line up with Sam Reed,Liam Griffin and Nathan Littlefair coming in for Matty Simpson,Craig Neal and Daniel Jeffrey

The opening 25 past by with both sides unable to retain possession for any length of time and with Haverhill just edging it in terms of winning second balls and looking slightly more dangerous with the ball over the top. It was from a Rovers corner in the 27th minute that the game had the first talking point .The Robins broke away and with Kelvin Enaro clean through on goal and a coming together with him and Rovers right back left the referee with no option to send the home player off. The resulting free kick saw Jamie Alsop hit the bar with his effort and away to safety

Ely did not turn their extra man into an advantage as the half went on and it was Haverhill who had the best chance to draw level, but Harry Reynolds was grateful for a headed effort straight at him.

The Robins started the second half half keeping the ball slightly better and looking more likely to break the deadlock. Tom Williams missed a glorious chance from four yards out by heading over . Although the away side had an extra man they did not really cause the home side any problems it was a sigh of relief from the away fans when a break from Sam Reed rounded the keeper and his effort was hand- balled on the line by the defender. The referee quite rightly awarded a penalty kick and sent the Rovers defender off to reduce the home side to nine players. Alex Theobald stepped up an cooly hit home the penalty

With nine men Haverhill did not give up and The Robins still not make their numbers count when either the final pass was not good enough or the end product was lacking the killer touch. Substitute Matty Simpson and Kelvin Enaro had good chances to put the game out of the home sides reach, but failed to do so.

With the game still 1-0 the home side had a great chance to draw level, but shot wide and it was left to Kelvin Enaro to finish off a decent move and seal all three points for the Robins when he slotted home towards the end

As manager Brady Stone commented at the end of the game '3 points is 3 points no matter how you get them'. While this is very true at this stage of the season it was a disappointing performance overall which lacked energy and composure for long periods .
