Robins return home pointless

Both sides went into the game on Saturday sitting on six points and in the wrong part of the league table. Ely made two changes from the side that started against Kirkley & Pakefield. Both Kelvin Enaro and Matty Simpson who came on during that game started while Craig Neal was unavailable and Dom Hunt dropped to the bench.

Ely started the first half playing up the slope and against the wind on a lovely playing surface. The away side started brightly with James Seymour and Matty Simpson getting shots in at the keeper. Kelvin Enaro making his first start for the club done well down the right and his cross was deflected, but Ash Walter at the far post could not get the final touch. Matty Simpson set up captain Seymour again, but failed to convert.

While both sides were trying to play football the ball retention was lacking and as the half progressed Walsham grew into the game . The lively Tanner Call was playing on the shoulders of the Robins two centre backs almost got in behind a couple of times.

Walsham did find the break through in the 31st minute when possession was given away on the half way line by Seymour ,Liam Griffin gave away a free-kick and from this the ball was swung into the box .Tom Williams did not make a great contact with his header and it arrived at the feet of the arriving forward who had got behind Ollie Brookes and he done well to adjust his footing and put the ball home A sloppy goal to concede at that stage of the match.

Walsham created another good chance before they did go two nil up. Alex Theobald gave the ball away in the final third and this resulted in a long ball that played straight into the hands of Tanner Call who ran between Spencer Saberton and Tom Williams and although both Williams and Ollie Brookes tried to keep the striker at bay he calmly struck the ball past a helpless Harry Reynolds in the Ely goal.

As the half drew to a close Ely out of nothing got one back. A Spencer Saberton throw in was flicked on by Seymour and Alex Theobald poke the ball in over the keepers head.

Ely had a great chance to draw level right at the start of the second half when a corner came in and this time sloppy defending by Walsham handed Tom Williams a shot at goal, but his tame effort went straight at the Walsham keeper. Spencer Saberton did put in a couple of decent crosses without any end product as the half progressed

The away side while looking dangerous mainly from the deliver from free-kicks by Jamie Alsop disappointingly where not creating anything in open play. Alex Theoblad had a header well saved by Brand in the Walsham goal, but he was adjudged to have been in an offside position

Walhsam looked dangerous on the break and Call did break through again, but hit his rushed effort went wide. Ollie Brookes did have a half chance and a Matty Simpson header just went over right near the end of the game.

In truth another disappointing result and performance. Starting brightly and then running out of ideas and as previously mentioned while not creating two many chances from open play
