Robins impress with spirited point away from home

Going to the side lying second in the league and without both regularly full backs not just shows the spirit that is starting to develop within this group but that the whole group of players are starting to come to terms with the physical side of the league.

Both sides had chances early on and although Stanway had the better chances the Robins tired to play their football on a hard bouncy pitch which they did fairly well. Harry Reynolds was forced to make an early save while Alex Theobald almost got in at the other end . Ely seemed to take control of the midfield and always seem to have a spare man which Rovers could not seem to handle. As the half drew to a close and all of the Robins fans were thinking what a good half their side had had out of the blue Stanway took the lead.

On Stanway's left the midfielder burst through between Dom Hunt and George Darling and then beat Tom Williams to put a low cross in that was met by the arriving attacker who smacked the ball goal- wards and the ball came off the inside of the bar and into the net with the help from another forward

Ely came out for the second half and again almost straight away Harry Reynolds tipped a shot around the post .Ely seemed to start the half slowly and Stanway looked more purposeful. Liam Griffin kept his side in the game by clearing off the line when a certain second goal seemed likely while an Alex Theobald cross was met by captain Ash Walter and his header just drifted over.

Dom Hunt and Spencer Saberton at full backs had excellent games and it was Saberton who created the breakthrough with a timely interception and cross for Alex Theobald who had got in front of his marker. The defender seems to panic and bundled Theobald over and the referee pointed to the spot. A yellow card was shown to the defender. Theobald dusted himself down and slotted the spot kick home.

It was no than the away side deserved and a Tom Williams header from a corner almost put his side in front late on.

The Robins almost snatched all three points deep into added time when when a Tom Williams header across goal was flicked on by Ash Walter and Alex Theobald could not just get in front of the defender to head home and the ball went behind for a corner

By far the best all round team performance of the season and although only one point was gained it was the manner that it was won. The side have shown what they are capable of and it is now a case of building on the performance .Next up Downham Town on Tuesday evening at home in the League Challenge Cup
