City lose out to The Jockeys

The Jockeys, included in their ranks ex-robins Nick Impey and Adam Dalby

Ely City were on top early on until a challenge on the jockeys keeper by Adam Murray caused a delay and some bandaging to the keepers head.

Not much happened in the opening 15 mins or so then Lewis Mcdonald shot wide, this was quickly followed up by a lobbed wide shot by The Jockeys.

Captain Lee Pacey made a good save by the post from Nick Impey, however The Jockeys then took the lead in the 25th min scored by Lee Clift.

Things got worse for Ely in the 34th min as Matty Bonner headed in past Lee Pacey from a good cross. Shortly after Austen Diaper headed over the bar and the Newmarket keeper made a good save from a Luke Parkinson shot.

Ely then had a shot over the bar by Lewis Chambers and Kenny Smith made a good block near the goaline. Nick impey playing centre forward shot wide as we went into about 7 minutes of first half injury time.

Kenny Smith received a yellow card before the break, Ely came under pressure with a blocked free kick and Kenny Smith saving off the line, the ref then blew up for half time.

Into the second half and The Jockeys again pressured the city goal and a block by Chris Sterecki prevented a goal. Luke Parkinson had a couple of shots at the keeper shortly after.

Richard Chadwick came to the rescue by blocking a header but then Newmarket struck again in the 57th min with another Lee Clift goal. Ely City were awarded a penalty after a foul on Austen Diaper, with Bonner receiving a yellow card. Lewis Mcmahon put away the penalty on the hour mark, 3-1.

Alan Alsop subbed Lewis McMahon for Ryan Jenner. Austin Diaper received a yellow on 66 mins to howls of derision by The Unwin faithful. There were various half chances towards the end with a Richard Chadwick goal bound header being saved the last action of the match.
